Since 2014 Chrome Yellow has designed living spaces in short buses, medium buses, and full-size school buses. The company has also designed several mobile business buses including grocery stores, therapy clinics, boutiques, coffee shops, and consulting spaces.

Charles Kern, also known on social media as “Chuck Cassady”, is a co-owner and founder of Chrome Yellow Corporation. His story starts in Denver in 2008 when he co-founded and began managing operations for Bus to Show—a non-profit bus company aimed at reducing the social impact (drunk driving, carbon footprint, etc) of nightlife and entertainment events. After several years of fleet management, Charles’ passion transpired to sustainable living in what he knew best—school buses. To learn more about Charles, read his autobiography here.

Our Team

Full size turnkey school bus conversions can take 1,000 man hours from start to finish, and that’s a lot to handle even for a team of skilled tradesmen! Each member on our team has a unique specialty that streamlines conversion process, and all members share a quest for perfection. When you stop by the shop, you’ll be greeted by a team member or one of our pets if they beat us to it! You’ll find several buses being converted and can find inspiration wherever the eye lands. If you have any questions, we are open arms and open ears. We’ve learned too much and have seen too many mistakes to let a new owner not have the correct information about their conversion. Chrome Yellow collaborated with other projects and was part of two more episodes of HGTV’s of THBL. In one episode Ben turns a school bus into a home and workshop on wheels for a friend, and in the other, Charles helps a couple make some insulation choices in their tiny home on wheels.

2016 Zillow sent some fine documentary filmmakers to hang with Charles a few days at our shop and make great micro-doc about our work and why we do it. You can see the whole thing and read the story here.
